"The One Where Toddlers Camp"

Camp Academy Week at AoSL was the absolute cutest! All ages participated in campfire crafts, bear hunts, bike day, hat day, and some enjoyed S'MORES! Each teacher put their own spin on their lessons which kept our hallways buzzing with creativity and fun! Toddler 3 had the cutest dramatic play set up this week. Our teacher's kept the children fully immersed in the camping world and provided them with a memorable experience. Great job, Teachers!

Wild Ones At Work

Our littles have been busy at work saving animals and learning all about them during our wild things week! In our infant and toddler rooms, the children were developing their fine motor and eye coordination skills as they rescued the trapped animals! Grasping and moving items from place to place help to strengthen key developmental milestones. Way to go, teachers!!!

Zero Gravity in PREK

Children in PreK are learning all about space this week! They created mixed material collages that represented zero gravity. Some drew a galaxy and others drew planets! They loved choosing items to float in their version of space!  What a fun exposure to science and a great way to express creativity and develop fine motor skills. Great Job PreK!

Seek. Find, and BUILD!

 LETS BUILD IT WEEK!

I'm not sure if there is a more engaging topic for some of our friends than building/construction. They really dig it! Teachers of our 3 years olds incorporated our weekly theme into a fun letter/name recognition game. Students were prompted to find the letters of their name during a scavenger hunt and  then worked to glue them down to spell their name. As you can see, engagement was high! Those smiling faces show how proud they were to find "their" letters. Our teachers did a great job facilitating an activity that allowed for gross motor, cognitive, and fine motor development. Through intentional planning, teachers are able to easily engage and challenge the minds of their young learners.

Tiny Hands- Big Stories to Write

Preschool 3 used their imaginations collaboratively after being inspired by a student's knight costume!

During our dress up day, friends were captivated by their classmates knight costume. The teachers used this opportunity to incorporate student led learning and facilitated the project pictured. Each student drew something magical and mythical. As a group, they discussed their drawings and made them come to life. It was then that the teacher realized they were building upon each others' descriptions and unintentionally telling a story. WOW! The class loved the idea of putting their friend, the knight, into their story. So, the teacher miniaturized him and they all decided where he would fit into each of their drawings! To wrap up their project, teachers printed a copy for each kid to take home and displayed it in the classroom. The children have taken so much pride in their work, AS THEY SHOULD!

Fairytale Week

It's Fairytale Week here at AOSL! Toddler 4 was busy piecing together ginger bread men this morning. Using the picture from a book and their own imaginations, we got a few very interesting gingerbread men. However, letting this age group use their own motor skills to piece a puzzle together is important for their growth, physical and emotional.

It's Lego week at Seaboard! We are doing all things Lego and having a blast. Today Preschool 4 was measuring how tall they were with Legos and most of them could not believe how many Legos they were able to stack up. We are looking forward to many more fun activities this week!

Ooey Gooey Sensory Bins!

It’s Ooey Gooey week at Seaboard Lane this week! The kids are really getting into all the messes we’re making. Sensory bins are a safe and almost-not-messy way to contain the fun while still being able to let the kids feel the textures. Out Toddler 3 class was getting into bubbles and out Toddler 4 was having fun with slime. It is important to let kids this age make a mess!

Art Week- Jackson Pollock

Summer themes have begun! It is Art Week here at Seaboard Lane and all the classrooms are in full art swing. Preschool 3 was experiencing the art world like Jackson Pollock this morning. They were making art splatter and getting really creative with it. This type of group activity is great for class bonding and learning to build off each others' ideas. Letting everyone get involved and seeing their end result is truly special at this age. Something they all can be equally proud of!

Bug Building

Seaboard Lane was busy building bugs this week. This made for an involved sensory and fine motor project for all skill levels. The kids enjoyed using their creativity to come up with any bug they wanted. They used play-dough, pipe cleaners, beads, buttons and stickers to make them (insert googly eyes.)

The Circus Is In Town

Preschool 3 is busy at the circus this week! Our teachers are giving the kids time to interact with their lesson plans. Learning all about what goes in to the circus. From the animals and acts, to the structure and the food. Each day the kids are getting a chance to try out a different part of the circus. Today they tried walking on the tightrope! They all did a great job!

Tummy Time!

TUMMY TIME! Our infants are getting the most out of their exercise routines these days. They are hard at work getting their tummy time in and gaining more control over those big body muscles. Tummy time is important at this age to strengthen their upper body muscles so they can master the next step of sitting up. Most babies this age are starting to reach for things and roll for objects on the floor. Before we know it, they will be running around!
