This past Friday, all of our Academy locations were closed and our teachers enjoyed Spring In-service! This year we traveled to the Adventure Science Center in Nashville to understand the importance of STEM in our classrooms.
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. STEM is important because it is included in every
part of our lives. Science is everywhere around us.
Technology is expanding at greater capacities than anyone could have ever imagined. Engineering can be as basic as the designs of roads and bridges, but also includes the challenges of changing global weather. Math is in every occupation and every activity
we do. By exposing children to STEM and giving them
opportunities to explore STEM-related concepts, they will develop a
passion for it. A curriculum
that is STEM-based has real-life situations to help the student learn, even at the preschool level.
Our staff explored concepts from bodily systems, like the digestive and respiratory systems, to earthquakes and tsunamis, and even nanotechnology. The day was filled with fun hands-on learning that will be transferred and applied to everyday learning in our classes!
