Scientific Tuesday!

Vinegar and baking soda are things you probably see in your own home. But did you know you can use them to blow up a balloon? When you put vinegar and baking soda together in a plastic bottle, you get a chemical reaction, and this chemical reaction produces carbon dioxide gas. After placing a balloon on the open end of the bottle, the gas tries to leave the bottle, it goes up into the balloon because of the tight seal you have created. Because the gas has no where to go and is pushing against the balloon, it inflates it!  Similarly, we exhale carbon dioxide when we blow up balloons! Our friends in Preschool 4 blew up a balloon using these simple things found in Ms. Teka's kitchen.
