Prescholar Enrichments!

In our Prescholar Enrichment classes, the kiddos are learning all about our solar system!

Quick Solar System Facts:
  • The solar system includes the Sun and all the objects that orbit around it due to its gravity. This includes things such as planets, comets, asteroids, meteoroids and moons.
  • The Solar System formed around 4.6 billion years ago.
  • There are eight planets in the Solar System. The four inner planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars while the four outer planets are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
  • The inner planets (also known as terrestrial planets) are smaller and made mostly of rock and metal.
  • The outer planets (also known as gas giants) are much larger and made mostly of hydrogen, helium and other gases.
  • As of 2008, there are also five dwarf planets: Pluto, Ceres, Eris, Makemake & Haumea.
  • There is an asteroid belt which lies between the orbits or Mars and Jupiter, it features a large number of irregular shaped asteroids.
  • For thousands of years humans were unaware of the Solar System and believed that Earth was at the center of the Universe.
  • Astronomers such as Nicolaus Copernicus, Galileo Galilei, Johannes Kepler and Isaac Newton helped develop a new model that explained the movement of the planets with the Sun at the center of the Solar System.
  • The Sun contains 99.86 percent of the Solar System's known mass, with Jupiter and Saturn making up making up most of the rest. The small inner planets which include Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars make up a very small percentage of the Solar System’s mass.

Grandparents' Day Milk & Cookies!

“What children need most are the essentials that grandparents provide in abundance. They give unconditional love, kindness, patience, humor, comfort, lessons in life. And, most importantly, cookies.”

Baby Doll Circle Time

"Baby Doll Circle Time" is a way to offer young children ways to experience themselves as nurturers and connect to their baby dolls in a manner similar to how they relate to parents and other important caregivers.  The goal of Baby Doll Circle Time is to enhance the quality of the relationship between caregivers and children by strengthening attachment and social play. Our toddler friends love to "wash" their babies, hug their babies, sing to their babies, and nurture their babies. It's so fun to see them use those skills to be kind and gentle with the friends in their classrooms.

Our school year is off to a great start with our Toddler 1 friends enjoying their introduction to Baby Doll Circle Time! We're so excited to see all of the things they learn this year.

Bike Day!

Bicycling is one of the best ways to get exercise, see the sights and reduce your carbon footprint. However, bicyclists face a host of hazards. They often must share the road with vehicles, and injuries can happen even on a designated path. When children are riding bikes, always inspect the following prior to riding:

  • The seat should be adjusted to the proper height and locked in place
  • Make certain all parts are secure and working properly
  • Check that the tires are inflated properly
  • Make sure the bike is equipped with reflectors on the rear, front, pedals and spokes
  • A horn or bell, a rear-view mirror and a bright headlight also are recommended
  • Always wear a helmet
Our friends were so happy to learn some safety tips, as well as exercise during BIKE DAY!
